Alumni Speak - Khushboo goel

Khushboo Goel, an alumni of GBPEC interacted with the students of GBPEC at MG Auditorium on 4th of March 2017 with an agenda of motivating students and guiding them for their future endeavors.

About Her :

She was a student of Computer Science Engineering of 2006-2010 batch. When in college she was the Branch Captain of Computer Science , Core member of Computer Science Event Spectrum , Student Coordinator of Computer Society of India and Vice Captain of Bose House. She achieved campus placement in two companies: TCS and Wipro. Amongst these , she opted for TCS as it had a late joining date giving her good 5 months to prepare for MBA.Hereafter she joined TCS and worked in their Tata Research Development Center Division for three years. Post this she joined IIM Lucknow for her regular MBA which she did from 2014 to 2016 majoring in Supply Chain Management and Marketing. Currently she works as a Supply Chain Manager in Philips Lighting India. She gave two attempts for MBA , scoring 96 percentile in first attempt and 98.6 percentile in second. Her effort to crack one of the top four IIMs was fulfilled in second attempt.

About the Session:

Being a student of same college, part of the same culture, it was a quite interesting session for both the alumni and the students.Students could imagine themselves in her place and hence understand her approach.
Her agenda covered three important brackets :
1)How to best utilize the time in GBPEC
2)How to build your profile
3) Career options ahead

She talked on basic issues about college , location and dearth of opportunities around campus . She tried making students understand that instead of cribbing about things that aren't available in the campus , it was all in students' hand to utilize their time wisely. In the absence of facilities in college, she advised students to utilize resources like Internet, Competitive books and Peer learning.

From her experience she said that we could easily utilize our times at campus on hobbies, career and personality and thus building our profile. This would help us achieve our dreams in a quicker time frame.
The session continued with students raising questions and the alumni answering them with her experience. One deep thing that every student felt there was how the students get accustomed to gossips , nonconstructive fun activities , marks based comparisons , laid back attitude towards extra-curricular and little working on profile and how all these things sink into the personalities of students and thus they waste the golden time available to them.
She spoke about the importance of a good, smart , ambitious friend circle , involvement in many non-academic activities for personality development, peer to peer learning, developing an environment of healthy competition thus helping each other to raise the bar of competition and thus growing with all, and most importantly not to keep marks as the sole parameter of comparison.

Profile Building

One very important advise shared was to build one's profile. This meant students should work on themselves , their personalities , activities they are involved in, achievements they gain, and any and every thing about their persona. She asked students to start quantifying the things that they do or wish to do.These may be any singing, writing, dancing, sports, or anything. If we have a talent then we should perform it. For example, if one is good at writing one can write for blogs, news papers and magazines and then can make them as reference to ones profile. If one is good at singing one can make a group and perform for jingles at different tourism or other companies which will make one not only earn money but also give one confidence and surely a reference for ones profile.

With many examples , Q&A and discussions, our alumni Khushboo Goel motivated and made a very interesting and awakening session successfully at our college.

Hope this will help the students of GBPEC to make a very determined step towards their future.
